To upgrade the safety of our unit, we have recently put up signs to demarcate the different zones within the MRI department. We urge you to please take note of these and familiarize yourselves with the meaning of these signs.

NB: If you arrive early for your appointment, please wait in Zone 1 or 2. This will be the arrangement until the construction work is finished. Once the main entrance is re-opened, the waiting area will be in Zone 1.

Zone 2 will be for preparation of participants to be scanned next.

The scale, measuring tape and equipment for cannulation will also be moved into Zone 2 where preparation is done.

NB: Only researchers that are busy with a scan will be allowed in Zone 3.

Please note that we will also be controlling the access into Zone 3 by locking the door. This is to avoid unnecessary traffic in the control room which can be distracting to the radiographers and other researchers.

Only participants that have been prepared for scanning, i.e changed into a gown, all metals removed and MRI compatibility forms complete, etc. will be brought into Zones 3 and 4. Only one researcher will be accompanying  participants into the scanning room, Zone 4.

In addition to the Zone signs, we are also displaying various Safety Posters to raise further awareness. Please take time to read these, as it will help to clarify questions regarding devices that are allowed/not allowed in the scanner.

On the 30th of August, a metal detector will be installed at the door leading into the cabin. This will assist with further screening of everyone entering the scanning room.

We appreciate your co-operation.
